Hello! We are Hannah and Gabriel—high school sweethearts who met in 2017 in a theatre classroom and built a life around a shared passion we didn’t even realize we had at the time.

Growing up half a country apart—Hannah in Kansas and Gabriel in Southwest Washington—we were both raised in families where motorcycles were a way of life. Riding was introduced to us early, and that passion only grew stronger over time.

Today, we’ve turned that shared love into something bigger. We were married in May 2025 and are now preparing to welcome our first child—our greatest adventure yet.

As educators in our everyday lives, we believe strongly in building a safer, more confident riding community. This business was created with one goal in mind: helping people learn to ride with skill, confidence, and the mindset to come home safe every time.

We can't wait to meet you!

Hannah Nicholson

Hannah’s journey with motorcycles began in Northeast Kansas, where her grandparents, Jane Palenske-Feldhausen and Mike Feldhausen, first introduced her to riding. She earned her motorcycle endorsement at 17 and has been riding ever since.

She is the backbone of the business—the one making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. From paperwork and communication to scheduling and organization, Hannah keeps every detail in place so students can focus on learning.

As a K–12 teacher and former community college employee, she is deeply committed to education at every level. She believes learning should be accessible, supportive, and empowering for everyone.

Hannah also brings a strong creative spirit to everything she does. With a background in choir, band, and theatre, and a passion for the arts, she blends structure with creativity in a way that helps shape both the business and the experience it provides.

While she’s often behind the scenes, don’t be surprised if you see her step into the classroom, because at heart, she’s always a teacher.

Gabriel Nicholson

Gabriel Nicholson

Gabriel was born and raised in Southwest Washington in a family where motorcycles are part of everyday life. He was introduced to riding by his Uncle “AppleJack” and the Davis family, earning his endorsement at just 16 years old. Several bikes later, four Harleys and counting, his passion has never slowed down.

He was introduced to riding by his Uncle “AppleJack” and the Davis family, earning his endorsement at just 16 years old. Several bikes later, four Harleys and counting, his passion has never slowed down.

Gabriel is the Lead Instructor and the face of the training experience.

If you take a class with us, you'll see him everywhere. He's maintaining the bikes, making sure everything is safe and ready to go. He's checking in with students, reading their confidence, and offering guidance in the moments it matters most. And when it's time to ride, he's the one leading the class and setting the tone.

As a School Bus Driver and CDL Instructor, teaching safe vehicle operations is already part of his daily life, but motorcycles are where his passion truly comes alive.

With a background in theatre, Gabriel brings energy, personality, and connection into every class. He meets riders where they are and helps them build real confidence and skill - step by step.

The Man Who Inspired It All

The Man, The Myth, The Legend - AppleJack.

Jackson Maxwell, "AppleJack" was more than a rider, he was a piece of the culture, a kind of man who lived life on two wheels and passed that spirit on to everyone around him.

Born in Deadwood South Dakota, his journey eventually led him to Washington, where he built a life in Kennewick alongside his wife, Joyce Maxwell. There, they became part of a tight-knit riding community grounded in freedom, loyalty, and the open road.

AppleJack's story is also tied to something bigger than himself. In the case of State V. Maxwell (1994), he challenged Washington's motorcycle helmet law, standing at the center of a decision that ruled the law unclear and unfair to everyday riders. That case helped push forward clearer standards around what qualifies as a legal helmet, shaping how riders understand safety requirements today.

But more than any court case or milestone, AppleJack's true legacy lives in the people he influenced.

He was the one who introduced Gabriel, and many others, to riding. Not just how to operate a motorcycle, but how to respect it. How to ride with awareness. How to carry yourself as part of a community.

He passed away in 2023, but his impact hasn't faded. It lives on in every rider he influenced, every mile ridden in his memory, and in the values we carry forward today.

This business carries his name with pride because everything we stand for traces back to riders like him.

Why we do, what we do.

Our Mission

Our Mission

Our Mission

At AppleJack’s Riding Academy, we believe motorcycling is more than transportation; it is a way of life, a passion, and a responsibility. As a family-owned riding academy built by riders, our mission is to provide professional, safety-focused motorcycle education that protects the people who matter most: your friends, your family, and ours. We are committed to building confident, skilled, and responsible riders through honest instruction, real-world training, and a culture where safety always comes first.

Our Vision

Our Mission

Our Mission

Our Vision is to become the most trusted motorcycle training program in Southwest Washington by setting the standard for rider safety, professionalism, accessibility, and student experience. We aim to develop lifelong riders who value skill, responsibility, and respect both on and off the road.

Our Values

Our Mission

Our Values

Family & Community

We are a family business, and we treat our students like part of the riding community we care deeply about. We teach every student the way we would want our own friends and family taught.

Safety Without Compromise

Riding a motorcycle can be life-changing and life-threatening without proper education. Safety is not a slogan to us; it is the foundation of everything we do.

Riders Teaching Riders

We are riders ourselves. We understand the freedom, responsibility, and lifestyle that come with being on two wheels, and we bring that real-world perspective into every class.

Respect & Support

Learning to ride can be intimidating. We believe in patient, respectful instruction that builds confidence without sacrificing accountability or safety.

Professionalism & Integrity

We hold ourselves to high standards in training, testing, communication, and fairness because trust must be earned.

Lifelong Learning

Passing a class is only the beginning. We encourage riders to continue growing their skills, awareness, and judgment throughout their riding journey.
